On Monday the 19/2/24, Trish Nelson of famed Lazio winery Gazzetta will be at Public to discuss farming and life in Lazio and to show us 8 of her new releases.

Having worked with wine in Sydney for a number of years, Trish fell deeply in love with the world of artisanal farming and wine growing and decided to move Italy to explore her passion further.

She worked with some of the wine world’s very brightest names and and most serious advocates of organic wine growing, Gianmarco and Clementine of Le Coste and Antonio and Daniela of Cantina Giardino.

Nearly ten years ago, Trish joined, then partner, Jacopo Battista at Umbrian domaine Ajola prior to setting out on her own and founding Gazzetta in 2018.

Today, Trish farms several hectares around the very beautiful and viticulturally significant Lake Bolsena and is joined by partner Piero. The soils here are largely informed by volcanic activity and are comprised generally of sand and ash.

Trish and Piero’s wines seem to always disappear as soon as we put them in the fridge at Public. We love the purity that the pair manage to capture in bottle and, year in year out, we adore these wines for their gastronomic qualities and suitability at the lunch or dinner table.

In the vineyard, Trish and Piero work with biodynamic teas and preps based on chamomile and nettle among other locally growing plants and herbs and the couple also grow various other fruit species and keep bees.

In 2023, the building in which Trish and Piero’s winery had been established, developed a gas leak and an ensuing explosion caused significant damage to the winery space and unbottled wines.

Fortunately, the 2022 wines were in bottle and safe and Trish and Piero, admirably, have remained positive and are embracing the new challenge of rebuilding.

We’re humbled to have Trish Nelson and importer Giorgio de Maria join us at Public for this, our first masterclass of 2024.

As always, the tasting and discussion will be accompanied by snacks from the kitchen.
