Description
Celler Tuets is situated in the hills of the D.O Penedes, between Barcelona and Conca de Barberà, where Albert Navarro farms 22 hectares of vines inherited from his family. Here, having been making wine since he was 19 – about 20 years ago – Albert began making wine under the Mas Tuets label in 2012.
Located on a mountainside just outside of the village of Aiguamurcia, the property spans 70 hectares in total and, in addition to vines, is home to a diverse range of pine, olive and almond trees as well as herbs, shrubs and wild flowers. Relatively low alcohol levels is a feature across all the cuvees and is partly attributable to the southern aspect of the property, which looks out toward and enjoys the cooling marinade winds from the Balearic Sea. The soil is calcareous with areas of clay.
This is syrah and tempranillo, mostly destemmed, macerated for a week with elevage in steel. The flavours are deliciously ripe and Mediterranean, albeit with a very digestible structure and shape thanks to the limestone, with agreeably low alcohol and weightlessness on the palate.
