Description:
Patrick Bouju is a key figure in the story of organic, additive-free winemaking in the Auvergne, establishing his domaine in the early 2000s at a time when the community was in its embryonic stages. Today, he is one of France’s most celebrated vignerons, loved equally for his distinctive wines and his famously shining personality.
Alongside his partner Justine, Patrick now farms several incredible old plots in and around the village of Glaine-Montaigut, but makes a number of négoce cuvees every year as well. G&M is one such wine, made from fruit sourced from several different regions around the south of France, the varieties being muscat, ugni blanc, viognier, grenache blanc and chardonnay.
The warm regions, the varieties used and the slightly protective way in which they’ve been handled can all be immediately felt in the wine, which is deliciously fruity – with plenty of sunkissed ripeness – and a pulpy, primary structure. It’s unbridled, expressive, and very high quality.
It’s a joy to see these incredible wines back in the country!
