Description
Sébastien Dervieux (aka Babass) is a legendary figure operating in the epicenter of Anjou’s storied community of small-scale, organic farming and additive-free winemaking.
His three hectares of vines were first planted in the 1950s and 60s by the late Joseph Hacquet, who, along with his sisters Anne and Francoise, had been making totally additive-free wines for over 50 years before Babass and his peers started their domaines. Together with Pat Desplats, Babass established the Domaine des Griottes in the early 2000s, but has been working independently since 2010.
Toto is made from grolleau and cabernet franc, and exhibits all the deliciously spicy character we would expect from these varieties. Both the nose and palate sing very much of cab franc, with bright red fruit and lots of vegetal sappiness.
Another brilliant offering from a challenging but rewarding vintage.
