Description:

Coming from the most isolated island in the San Juan archipelago, Waldron Island. This is comprised of many different varieties and is produced as a rolling ferment throughout the picking season. Tess and Nic have been privileged to have access to this incredibly special fruit from the Arndt family at Sandy Point Farm. Waldron Island is closed to development and generally to visitors and there is no running water or electricity on the island and no ferry. To have access means to be invited and to be able to create from this distinct terroir is a gift.

Due to the variety of ripening times in the orchard, producing this as a rolling ferment adds incredible and subtle layers of complexity. A cuvée of true purity, the acidity is perfectly balanced with grassy and earthen qualities that compliment the savoury fruit perfectly.

Piquenique is an extraordinary project from two of America’s most compelling wine minds: Tess Bryant of Tess Bryant Selections and Niccolo Coturri of the famed California family of vignerons. They live together now on San Juan Island in the isolated archipelago of the same name, 3 hours outside of Seattle, Washington — a remarkably beautiful part of the world not known for its winemaking. Nick and Tess source a stunning variety of fruits, both wild and cultivated, including grapes, quince, medlar, blackberries, and apples from around the archipelago to create truly unique fermented beverages.
