Andi is back!

After receiving our first ever wines from rising star Andi Weigand last year, we have just been treated to a long-awaited second shipment. Happily, this includes a couple of new cuvees, as well as restocks of some of our favourites from last year.

This comes from one of Andi’s favourite sites called Sparrnbach, which has particularly stony soils with a mixture of shelly limestone and keuper. It was direct-pressed, fermented in small barrels and saw 20 months on lees prior to bottling.

A tense and chiselled style albeit concentrated and layered, with a wonderful balance between vivid primary fruit and more crystalline structure from the time in barrel, and lots of delicious complexity from the lees. Above all, it has the elevated, direct and thrilling energy of fruit grown on super calcareous soils, and has been vinified exceptionally well.

Andi lives and works in the historic town of Iphofen in central Germany, where he farms a number of cool sites growing on calcareous soils and vinifies (mostly white) wines in a cellar built in 1664.
