Description

In 2017, Rié and Hirofumi Shoji founded their tiny 3.5-hectare property just outside of the village of Collioure, located in the far southeast of France, very close to the Mediterranean waters of the Gulf of Lyon to the east and the Spanish border to the south. Sitting around 250-300 metres above sea level, the windswept hillside location brings arid winds which lower the chances of fungal diseases afflicting the vines and therefore lower Rié and Hirofumi’s need to intervene with agrochemical remedies. All of the Grenache for the Pedres Blanques cuvée is sourced from 50+ year old bush vines grown in the granite and schists of this section of the Pyrenees.

The fruit was placed in vats and fermented in whole-clusters for about one month to gently extract those fine yet firm grape tannins without sacrificing any of the beautifully defined dark fruit character. Once fermentation was completed the wine was transferred into old barrels of various sizes to age for 18 months before release.

Once in the glass, the dry, ruby-coloured, 2022 Pedres Blanques offers fresh, dark red and black fruit aromas and flavours interwoven with delicate floral and crushed stone-like mineral notes to create a beautifully complex and layered wine.
