Description:
Clos du Rouge Gorge is the project of farmer and winemaker Cyril Fhal, who in 2002 came from the Loire to the Roussillon where he found a number of small parcels in the hills near the village of Latour-de-France, about 20 miles north-west of Perpignan. Planted over gneiss soils, the vines have been farmed organically and biodynamically since they were planted.
Cyril primarily grows carignan, grenache and macabeo. Yields are miniscule, and the wines are made fairly traditionally – harvesting is completed by hand, after which grapes are lightly crushed by foot and eventually run to barrel for elevage.
The wines boast pure silken fruit, moderate levels of alcohol, crisp acidity and minerality. Serious and ageworthy, they are highly recommended for fans of producers such as Bruno Duchêne and Jordi Llorens.
Le Rouge et Le Blanc is a dark rosé made from a blend of grenache and muscat blanc.
