Description:

Here’s something pretty special!

2008 estate chardonnay, a small portion of which was left in barrel to age under flor for a further four years after the rest of the wine was bottled. It was run to 375ml bottles in 2013, by which time it had developed oxidative flavours similar to Vin Jaune, albeit with lower alcohol levels.

R. D’Meure was born of the partnership between Tasmanian winemakers Rory Duggan and Dirk Meure. Dirk is Rory’s uncle, and together they farm one of Australia's most southerly-planted vineyards on the shores of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, overlooking Bruny Island.

The 1ha site was planted in 1991 to pinot noir and chardonnay, with small amounts of merlot, cabernet franc, malbec and pinot gris as well. With yields intentionally kept low, these wines are made in very small quantities from concentrated, high-quality fruit, with a sense of elegance owing to both the cool site and ultra-precise, experienced winemaking.
