Description:

Formerly run by the legendary Guy Blanchard, Domaine Sauveterre is now helmed by Jerome Guichard. He farms three small parcels of chardonnay around the village of Montbellet, and one small parcel of gamay on an excellent slope further south in the village of Leynes (which was shared with Phillippe Jambon and Pierre Boyat, before Pierre retired).

Generally speaking, Jerome favours fruit and fleshiness over minerality and the whites are deliciously pulpy. He is a master at using the anti-oxidative qualities of lees contact to retain aromas and flavours of fruit. Having said that, the wines are also quite mineral owing to the high clay content of the soils.

Lightly macerated chardonnay from a single site and now over 10 years old, this is richly textured but still super fresh, owing to a very faint thread of volatile acidity. Honeyed and creamy with evolved candied citrus fruit and delicate tea-cupboard herbal character, this is generous and complex and now entering a really marvellous window for drinking.
