Description
South Australian royalty James Erskine is back with another magnificent suite of wines, this time from the high, high-quality 2024 harvest. We always love these wines for their delicious fruit and super-precise winemaking but in 2024, the wines also show perhaps the most minerality that we’ve ever tasted from these sites.
This comes from a site in McLaren Flat, planted in the 1940s over deep white sand on clay, farmed organically by Fiona Wood. It saw a long time on skins before being pressed to barrel. This wine comes from only the free-run portion of the ferment.
Medium-bodied but concentrated, with present yet fine tannic structure and balanced acidity, this is red-fruited and layered with spice, with lots of savoury earthen complexity being expressed from the deeply-rooted old vines.
A gorgeous and very distinctly Australian expression of the variety, and the product of a beautiful collaboration between some of the country’s brightest farming and winemaking talents.
