Description
Alex Craighead’s 2021 pinot noir and pinot gris blend has been tasting very good recently. All of the fruit was grown on the dense clays typical of this part of Aotearoa, and much like we’ve seen in the wonderful reds from Kunoh made by Alex’s neighbour Yuki Nakano, the style of fruit is deliciously savoury as a result.
Tasting today, this very much sings of pinot noir, with a compact core of red fruit tinged with smoke and delicious black olive character. The phenolic structure of the wine is also nicely polished, making the wine suited to drinking at a slightly cooler temperature, if the mood strikes.
