Description:
Old-vine carignan made in demijohn by Nathalie Guillevic and Etienne Granier in the Languedoc.
Medium-to-full bodied with layers of chewy tannin carried by relaxed acidity, and an overall impression of abundant warmth and fully mature grapes with nicely thick skins, this is nonetheless still fresh and vibrant in texture, with a complex, evolved flavour profile of tobacco, fresh and dried fruits and some more savoury earthen and bacterial aromas too. There’s lots of chalky matter on the palate owing to the style of vinification, which has allowed for the retention of all the sinew and other layers of glorious detail from the vineyard, which still feels vivid even after the extended period of time in bottle.
Highly recommended for fans of rustic and generous bistro-style reds, this will do very nicely indeed with a good quality and simply cooked piece of red meat.
