Description
Chardonnay from the brilliant Valentin Morel in Poligny.
This comes from a single hectare planted in 1980 over classic Jura clay-limestone soils. The fruit was direct-pressed and saw elevage in old barrels, topped-up, resulting in a wine which is not oxidative but nicely resolved and crystalline – classical, deep, chiselled and powerful, with a mineral core and restrained stone fruit.
Valentin took over from his father in 2014 after studying and practising law for a few years and then completing a degree in oenology in Alsace, where he developed his passion for organics and gained experience working with vignerons Pierre Frick and Bruno Scheuller.
