Description:
The wines made by Kyatt Dixon and his team continue to dazzle us. They really are some of our very favourite currently being produced in the country – always classical and precise with very pure varietal expression, and always compelling in their expression of the Mount Gambier area’s various pockets, with both limestone and volcanic influence on show in varying levels across the different cuvees.
2023 is a brilliant year, with really excellent quality of fruit made even more special by a slightly longer period of elevage and time in bottle.
This comes from the Eumeralla vineyard and is the second pet-nat Kyatt made in 2023. It was bottled during primary fermentation and eventually disgorged, after spending a long time on its lees in bottle.
Aromatically complex and crystalline on the palate, with persistent and finely-woven bubbles, and layers of elegant autolytic character resting upon a core of rich, round, pink forest fruit – a savoury style of fruit which, according to Kyatt, owes much to the site, which is Kyatt’s most volcanic, with the thickest layer of black sand topsoil.
This is totally effortless and approachable, but with lots of nuance to unpack, for those looking for a slightly more serious style of sparkling to drink slowly and contemplate.
Bravo Kyatt!
