Description:
Mataburro is the project of Laurent Roger and Melissa Ingrand, consisting of almost 5 hectares of vines, split into several parcels near Rivesaltes and Espira-de-l’Agly in Roussillon.
The domaine was started in 2017 when the pair took over a vineyard from Laurent’s father. Prior to this, Laurent had gained experience working with other producers in the south including Alain Castex, Axel Prüfer and Tom Lubbe of Matassa.
2024 was marked by significant drought conditions but was ultimately a high-quality year, with reduced yields giving concentrated, flavourful wines.
Idoine is 100% merlot from 30-year-old vines growing on heavy clay soils. The fruit was macerated as whole bunches for 3 to 4 days before being pressed off to concrete for elevage, with a small portion being run to barrel, resulting in a medium-bodied wine with dark cherry fruit and lots of pulpy primary texture.
