Description:
Mataburro is the project of Laurent Roger and Melissa Ingrand, consisting of almost 5 hectares of vines, split into several parcels near Rivesaltes and Espira-de-l’Agly in Roussillon.
The domaine was started in 2017 when the pair took over a vineyard from Laurent’s father. Prior to this, Laurent had gained experience working with other producers in the south including Alain Castex, Axel Prüfer and Tom Lubbe of Matassa.
2024 was marked by significant drought conditions but was ultimately a high-quality year, with reduced yields giving concentrated, flavourful wines.
Otium is predominantly grenache, from 80-year-old vines originally farmed by Laurent’s grandfather, with a small portion of grenache gris from a vineyard originally farmed by Alain Castex and now tended to by Laurent. The fruit was destemmed and macerated for a few days before pressing off to concrete tanks, giving a delicate and fragrant red wine, medium bodied, with silken texture.
