Description
Here’s something very, very special!
Ousar is the project of Victoria Fitzmaurice, who, alongside partner Marcus Carne, started the label in 2023 with the purchase of a single tonne of beautiful semillon grown by Fiona Wood in McLaren Flat. Victoria has previously worked with a number of incredible winemakers including Catherine Dumora in the Auvergne and James Erskine of Jauma.
The 2023 fruit was split between two vessels, a fibreglass tank and an amphora, to create two cuvees. This cuvee comes from the amphora portion, where it was macerated on skins for 9 months before seeing a period of rest in bottle.
Today, it is tasting resolved, concentrated, expressive and totally delicious, with a mineral style of fruit, generous texture and lots of delicious apple-y varietal character.
Lovingly made in tiny quantities and labelled with gorgeous handmade paper designs, this is a seriously beautiful product from a couple of proper legends, and one that comes with our highest recommendation.
