Description
From young Languedoc stars Rié and Hirofumi Shoji.
In 2017, the couple founded their tiny 3.5-hectare property just outside of the village of Collioure, located in the far southeast of France, very close to the Mediterranean waters of the Gulf of Lyon to the east and the Spanish border to the south.
The fruit for this cuvee comes from old bush vines grown on the granite and schists typical of this section of the Pyrenees, sitting around 250-300 metres above sea level on a dramatic, arid and windswept hillside. The fruit was placed in vats and fermented in whole-clusters for about one month before being run to old barrels of various sizes to age for 18 months before release.
A slightly more medium-bodied and red-fruited wine compared to the couple’s more generous and brooding Pedres Blanques cuvee, but similarly silken, pure and mineral in style and utterly brilliant in quality.
