Description:

Spectacular sparkling rosé from one of our favourite Auvergne producers.

Sancerre-born Benoit Rosenberger farms three hectares of gamay d’auvergne from 50-80 year old vines split across small parcels, around 350-500 metres above sea level.

This sparkling was made from several parcels of gamay d’Auvergne planted on clay and basalt, with all the fruit direct-pressed to tank. Though vinified in a petillant-naturel style, finishing fermentation in bottle, it was disgorged prior to release and has a refined and layered structure, reminiscent in many ways of a blanc-de-noirs méthode-traditionnelle sparkling made from pinot noir. Having said that, the structure of the wine is much more broad and bulbous – rather than the direct and linear style of acidity found in the wines of Champagne, this is deep and mineral on the palate, with a richer and more earthen style of fruit.

One of our favourite sparkling wines of the year, we recommend this very, very highly.
